The Soochow University Big Data Analytics Research Center held this year's "Big Data Visualization Analysis Tool Tableau Software Application Teaching" course on November 21, 2018, at Soochow University's Shuangxi Campus. The course covered a wide range of topics including basic interface introduction, data category introduction, data connection methods, data joining, basic visualization chart analysis, geographic information visualization analysis, interactive dashboard presentation, and adding control variables.
The training course received enthusiastic participation from both faculty and students at Soochow University. Participating faculty and staff came from units including the Big Data Analytics Research Center, the Institutional Research and Data Analysis Center, the Teaching Resource Center, and the College of Science. Student participants spanned numerous departments, including the College of Big Data Management, the Department of Psychology, Political Science, English, Sociology, Economics, Information Management, and Business Administration.
The participation of faculty and students from such diverse backgrounds reflects a growing demand and expectation for "data visualization" across the campus. As we enter the era of big data, the Big Data Analytics Research Center also shoulders the expectations of the university community, and is committed to developing core competencies in processing large-scale data and presenting it visually. The intuitive and rapid chart-switching capabilities of Tableau — which require no programming knowledge to analyze data — have led the Center to continuously promote this software on campus, raising the data presentation skills of faculty and students alike.
In the future, the Big Data Analytics Research Center will continue to promote courses on data analysis tools and data visualization analysis tools, ensuring that interested faculty, staff, and students at Soochow University keep pace with the big data era.
